WHERE DO YOU GET YOUR INSPIRATION FROM?

The Dream

I think it can be said that your wedding day is one you’ll want to remember for all the right reasons. Unless you’re planning a “legals only” ceremony around the kitchen table,, you will probably be wanting to mesh your own ideas with those of others to create a unique experience. These days, we are bombarded with information at every turn. So, where do you get your inspiration from?

Online

One of the first places to look for ideas is online. Whether it’s Instagram, Facebook, YouTube or Pinterest, pretty much everything is available at your fingertips. The trick is to be able to narrow down your search so you’re not overwhelmed. Joining wedding-related groups on Facebook can also put you in touch with a wealth of information and businesses which could suit your style.

Bridal Expos

Another really useful place to gather ideas and to meet wedding suppliers is at bridal expos. These are held at intervals throughout the year around Australia so, keep an eye out for advertising on social media for dates and places. You’ll not only find celebrants there but a wide range of other wedding suppliers who can help make your vision come to life.

Publications

Publications, particularly bridal magazines, also showcase individual weddings. You’ll be able to see how each little detail worked together to create a harmonious celebration. Different styles, colours, locations and times of year all play an important role in the final effect. Check out:

Websites

Look out for dedicated wedding websites which feature various aspects in relation to wedding planning. These include décor, stationery, clothing, jewellery, bouquets etc. You’ll also be able to look at photographs from real-life weddings to see how everything came together on the day. Check out:

What’s next?

If you’re the kind of person who likes to be organised, I’d suggest buying a journal at the start of the planning process. You’ll be able to keep track of appointments, ideas, colour swatches and so much more in the one place. It’s something you can pick up daily, be inspired by and let your mind wander to all that’s possible.

If you’re wanting or needing to keep a close eye on finances, creating a simple Excel spreadsheet and being realistic will help. This should capture your budget (first and foremost) and all your potential expenses. If you include four columns, one to list each item, one for “must haves”, one called “wish list”, and one with a running total, you’ll be able to include pricing in the 2nd and 3rd columns and deduct this from the $ you have available in the 4th column. This is a great way to help you decide what you can afford to have and what may be something you can go without. As you purchase items, or book suppliers and commit to a price, your running total column will show you how much of your budget you have left to spend and whether you need to make any adjustments within the 2nd and 3rd columns.

Shopping around and locking in quotes by paying a deposit will mean you know exactly what you’re working with. Most quotes are only valid for a limited time. When I send out quotes, they are valid for a minimum 6 weeks; however, my fees will usually increase (marginally) at the beginning of each year. I’m happy to offer a payment plan to each of my couples so they can spread payments in the lead up to their wedding day. Note: While asking for quotes two years or more ahead of time may give you an idea of what something will cost, it’s unreasonable to expect a supplier to hold a price for that length of time. Business owners are faced with rising prices too so, in order to be successful, will need to take this into account when quoting. Some, you will find, will not even entertain sending a quote that far ahead.

Finally

The day has arrived! Everything you’ve planned has come together and, now, it’s time to enjoy the celebration with family and friends. If I can help you on your wedding journey, please feel free to get in touch. I’m always happy to help.
